WEYU Integrates Chainlink VRF to Bring Verifiable Randomness to Its NFT Ecosystem

A new day brings with it another exciting and significant milestone on the WEYU journey — and one for the NFT space as a whole — as WEYU integrates Chainlink VRF. The integration of Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) helps secure the fair and random distribution of NFTs across the WEYU ecosystem on the Ethereum, Polygon and Binance Smart Chain (BSC) mainnets, helping drive mainstream adoption of NFTs.

Before we stride full steam ahead, it’s important to first understand what blockchain oracles like Chainlink do, and what exactly Chainlink VRF is.

Why Do Blockchain Oracles Matter?

Oracles in the blockchain space are in many ways similar to prophetic oracles, which received precognitions of the future and acted as a medium between two worlds. In this case, blockchain oracles act as a secure medium between the blockchain realm and the real world. This is needed because blockchains are self-contained and lack access to external resources, a limitation commonly known as the blockchain oracle problem. Oracles solve this problem by providing access to information and other off-chain services that would otherwise be unavailable to them or too expensive to perform on-chain.

The Value of Chainlink VRF in the NFT ecosystem

Chainlink has pioneered a robust and verifiable source of on-chain randomness through a solution known as Chainlink Verifiable Random Function. In practice, this means that smart contract developers can use VRF as a source of tamper-proof random-number generation. For NFT projects and platforms, which regularly use randomness for minting, distribution, and more, Chainlink VRF acts as a crucial source of verifiable on-chain randomness, giving users high assurances that any and all randomness-needing functions are fair and unbiased.

A key component of Chainlink VRF is that it enables smart contracts to access randomness without compromising on security or usability. With every new request for randomness, Chainlink VRF generates a random number and cryptographic proof of how that number was determined. The proof is then published and verified on-chain before it can be used by any consuming applications.
